Barbie Inspired Cocktail for the girl who has everything and can do anything.
When you’re Barbie, living in your fantastic plastic Barbie World, you have everything clad in Pink. So why not a cocktail that is just as beautifully pink as it is fun to drink? Matel first launched Barbie in 1959 and she and her friends have changed a lot over the years, not too different from myself and my own group of friends. I guess that is just what time does to you. Barbie may have had a few controversies since its inception, but the fact that it has been stated there have been over 1 billion barbie dolls sold is mindblowing.
Barbie and her friends have really branched out since they were first introduced to the world. They now have over 250 different careers really highlighting that you can be what you want to be with some hard work. And maybe a little help and support from your friends along the way. They also now come in several different body sizes, shapes, skin tones, hair and eye colors. She has even branched out to numerous other avenues including movies, shows, video games and more.
After hearing about the new live action Barbie movie hitting the big screen in 2023, I am excited to see what Margot’s version of Barbie is. There have been hints, there might be more to the picture then can be seen from the outside looking into Barbie World.
The older we get, the more we realize sometimes things are not always what they seem. Sometimes there is more going on underneath the surface then meets the eye. Being “perfect” is exhausting, unsustainable and quite honestly, overrated. Whip up a Barbie Inspired Cocktail, reminisce about the days of playing barbies with your friends while watching Barbie hit the big screen and be real instead!
Ingredients and Barware for 1 Cocktail
Malibu Rum
Vodka
Cranberry Juice
Grapefruit Juice
Pink Sanding Sugar
Vanilla Frosting (optional for rim)
Martini Glass
Cocktail Shaker
About the Ingredients
Malibu Rum is a Caribbean rum with a sweet coconut flavoring; often giving a tropical flavor. And when I think of Barbie, my head often thinks of Malibu Barbie
Vodka is a distilled alcoholic drink that is clear in color. It typically does not have much flavor and therefore is a very popular alcohol to infuse. Given its clear color, it makes it perfect to help turn our drink pink for Barbie.
Cranberry Juice is pretty straight forward and is made from the juice of cranberries with water and sugar and is red in color.
Grapefruit juice is of course a citrus fruit that provides a mildly sweet flavor with a pink tint. Exactly what we need for a Barbie inspired cocktail.
How to Make
Take the rim of your martini glass carefully through the frosting to get a thin and consistent coating. Then dip the coating rim into the Pink Sanding Sugar again ensuring to get a thin coating. Tap on the glass a few times once coated to get some of the loose sugar off. Add Ice and set aside
In a cocktail shaker add ice and 1 oz Vodka, 1 oz Malibu Rum, 1 oz Cranberry Juice and 1.5 oz Grapefruit Juice. Place cap and shake vigeriously until well mixed and chilled.
Pour over ice into rimmed martini glass.
