The Whiskey Sour cocktail has quite a long history. And its a pretty interesting one as well. The drink dates back to the 1800s. During those times, boats carried a lot of lemons and limes to help prevent sailors from getting scurvy. It also carried alcohol. A lot of alcohol! And thus the whiskey sour was born.
Now there are a lot of variations to the Whiskey Sour today. Variations like adding a spoon of red wine, adding an egg white, or adding port wine.
We decided to make a classic cocktail one night and let me just say, I was shocked at how much I liked this one! The flavors go together perfectly and it is surprisingly refreshing! We joked about calling it a Cold Toddy in our house because we both grew up with Hot Toddy’s when sick. And it’s basically the same ingredients just cold instead of hot.
I think its safe to say that the classic whiskey sour is going to be a regular cocktail menu item in our house! I guess I now know why the whiskey sour is one of the most popular classic cocktails!

About The Ingredients
American Rye Whiskey is made from at least 51% rye and aged in new barrels .
Lemon Juice adds a touch of citrus and lightens up some of the harsher alcohol tastes.
Simple syrup is simply a mixture of equal parts water and sugar boiled until fully dissolved and slightly thickened. It is a staple ingreditent in most bars as its frequently used to sweeten cocktails without having issues of sugar dissolving fully in a cold drink
