Sour Patch Kids Infused Vodka Shots, first they are sour, then they are sweet
This beloved oxymoron of a candy really does have both a sour and yet sweet taste making it quite a popular treat. Their advertising campaign hits close to home for us as I have mentioned in the past, we loving refer to our children as sour patch kids. Because they can be really sour, but then they really are sweet. (I think that’s how they get ya!)
However even long before we had three little sour patch kids of our own, this was a frequent candy in our house! (Well ok, to be fair, there are a LOT of candies that are frequently in our house! We both have quite a sweet tooth to say the least) But that just means more different candy to experiment and trial new delicious cocktail and mocktail recipes with!
But for now, you have to try these Sour Patch Kids infused vodka shots! But I must warn you, first they are sour, then they are sweet!
Ingredients and Barware for 2 Shots (and 5 different Vodka infusions)
- Sour Patch Kids candy separated by color
- 5 air tight containers
- Sanding Sugar (Optional to rim your shot glasses)
- Two Shot glasses
- Extra Sour Patch Kids candies (optional for garnish)
About the Ingredients
Vodka works great for infusing because it essentially does not have much of a flavor on its own allowing it to take on the flavor of whatever you are infusing it with. Plus, it has a clear color to it which, if you are infusing it with something bright and colorful, like Sour Patch Kids candies, it will also take on the color as well. Creating a vibrant and fun shot!
There isn’t much more to be said for Sour Patch Kids candies. First they are sour, then they are sweet! These little gummy candies are so delicious, they have since branched out from just the originals we know and love to create severeal new flavors and shapes with the same delcious taste you can count on from Sour Patch Kids.
How to Make
Separate the sour patch kids by colors and place one color per air tight container
Add Vodka to the jar. (Try to fully cover the candies by at least an inch depending on the size container you are using)
Let sit for at least 24 hours and up to 7 days, shaking every so often. (The longer it infuses, the more flavor and color the vodka will take on from the candy)
Strain the infused vodka and discard any candy pieces strained out from the infusion process. (Tip: place a coffee filter inside of your mesh strainer to really get the small particles of candy out leaving a smooth vodka)
Rim your shot glasses with the sanding sugar
Pour 1.5 oz of your favorite sour patch kid flavor into a cocktail shaker. Add Ice and shake vigerously until well chilled
Pour into rimmed shot glass
Garnish with coordinating Sour Patch Kid Candy
This is a pretty straight forward garnish. Simply slice a small slit in the sour patch kid candy you choose to use as a garnish and place on the rim of the glass.
